Queen’s Park close on title as Murray clinches win

Simon Murray scored twice in the last 12 minutes to help visitors Queen’s Park beat Edinburgh City 3-2 – and a point from tomorrow night’s game with Elgin City will see Ray Mckinnon’s side crowned champions.

Peter Grant nodded the Spiders ahead after 26 minutes, but second -half headers from Liam Henderson and Josh Campbell putgarynay­smith’ssidein charge.

Murray then darted forward to bag his double, and extend his side’s advantage to 15 points, with Mckinnon saying: “We will raring to go against Elgin.”

Stirling Albion enjoyed a 5-1 success at Cowdenbeat­h where Andy Ryan scored either side of Craig Barr’s header to have the Binos winning with Chris Hamilton adding a third before the break. Kyle Banner and Dylan Mackin grabbed goals in the second half as the Forthbank side pulled level with the Citizens in the play-off chase.

Albion Rovers continued their fine form and dented Elgin’s play-off hopes with a 5-2 win at Borough Briggs. Former Elgin striker Matthew Aitken put Rovers ahead before Kane Hester levelled for the hosts. Tom Mchale’s unfortunat­e own goal put Rovers back in front, with Aitken getting his second and the visitors’ third after 58 minutes.

Kyle Docherty came off the bench to add a secondhalf double before Connor O’keefe’s late consolatio­n for Elgin who sit fifth.

Annan Athletic picked up their first home league win in 14 months as they defeated a Brechin side, who look doomed for the pyramid play-offs, 3-0.
