Queen’s Park close on title as Murray clinches win
Simon Murray scored twice in the last 12 minutes to help visitors Queen’s Park beat Edinburgh City 3-2 – and a point from tomorrow night’s game with Elgin City will see Ray Mckinnon’s side crowned champions.
Peter Grant nodded the Spiders ahead after 26 minutes, but second -half headers from Liam Henderson and Josh Campbell putgarynaysmith’ssidein charge.
Murray then darted forward to bag his double, and extend his side’s advantage to 15 points, with Mckinnon saying: “We will raring to go against Elgin.”
Stirling Albion enjoyed a 5-1 success at Cowdenbeath where Andy Ryan scored either side of Craig Barr’s header to have the Binos winning with Chris Hamilton adding a third before the break. Kyle Banner and Dylan Mackin grabbed goals in the second half as the Forthbank side pulled level with the Citizens in the play-off chase.
Albion Rovers continued their fine form and dented Elgin’s play-off hopes with a 5-2 win at Borough Briggs. Former Elgin striker Matthew Aitken put Rovers ahead before Kane Hester levelled for the hosts. Tom Mchale’s unfortunate own goal put Rovers back in front, with Aitken getting his second and the visitors’ third after 58 minutes.
Kyle Docherty came off the bench to add a secondhalf double before Connor O’keefe’s late consolation for Elgin who sit fifth.
Annan Athletic picked up their first home league win in 14 months as they defeated a Brechin side, who look doomed for the pyramid play-offs, 3-0.
