Poll boost

More than half of people across the UK believe a second Scottish independence referendum should take place if the SNP gains a Holyrood majority, suggests a poll.

Then they're either very gullible and not well versed on Scottish politics and the state of our economy, or the relentless whining and wheedling of the SNP about the constitution over the years has utterly sickened them. We voted by a considerable margin to remain in the UK only six years ago, and the SNP only speak for around 45% of Scots – if that.

Margot Gleave

If Scotland's economy is in a "state" then that is hardly an advert for staying in the union; and the desire for independence extends beyond those who vote SNP.

Norrie Crichton

I am definitely not one of them. This is not a neverendum and the matter was decided for a generation. This is a constitutional matter for Scots (resident or not and people living permanently in Scotland). For constitutional change this should be a high barrier for change. 65-70% to avoid a repeat of the Brexit fiasco.

Alistair Munro On the premise alone, that so many believed that staying as part of the UK was the surest way to stay in the EU – which obviously was a lie – they should be allowed to vote again, as the decision was made on false and incorrect information deliberately fed to the Scottish people via Westminister.

Lynn Gillard

I've never once before been polled on independence…

Fraser Thorburn

When they ask everyone, it's called an election. There's one coming up.

Colin King Vote has been done already.

Once in a generation. Move on.

David Kinsley This “once in a generation referendum” was not binding. It was merely a slogan intended for getting Scots out to vote. Yet now the enemy is using it as a reason not to hold another ref. for 30 years or more! A lot has changed in the last six years and I think that Boris has no authority to stop another vote.

Brian Pugh We had the referendum and decided so are we going to create a best of 3 or a best of 5 or just keep going until the SNP get what they want? If the vote had been Yes, would

there be a call for a second referendum now? If there is a second referendum and it generates a Yes will the SNP agree to hold another seven years later or so?

Rick Glass Get the country back to where we were before bothering about referendum, more important issues to worry about.

Julia Wylee So do these reps for these polls ask enough people until they get the right poll percentage?

Neil Armstrong I'm tired of many both sides presenting this as independence for all issues ot absolutely the union on all issues. That's absolute claptrap and political and economic illiteracy. The absolute truth is that there are some issues that favour one or the other and we are left to weigh up the choices.
