Spartans back into top four as City come from behind to win

- By NEIL MCGLADE

Spartans leapfrogged city rivals Hibernian to move into the top half of SWPL 1 after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Forfar.

The capital outfit were fast out of the blocks at Station Park and two quick-fire goals from Becky Galbraith had them firmly in control after seven minutes. The hosts reduced the arrears ten minutes before the half-time interval through a Cheryl Kilcoyne strike.

Debbi Mcculloch's side had chances in the second half to put the game beyond the Angus club but Galbraith's double proved decisive.

Elsewhere, Hibs took an early lead against champions Glasgow City but came up short 2-1 at Ainslie Park. Eilidh Adams fired the home side in front with a neat finish in the 13th minute but City responded and were level through Janine Van Wyk's stunning strike.

Priscila Chinchilla's penalty on the hour mark wrapped up the points for Scott Booth's side despite some late pressure from the hosts.

Hearts returned to the foot of the table after they lost 2-1 to Motherwell at the Pennycars Stadium in Airdrie.
