Avoid fake honey trap!

-

It is estimated that up to half of all honey sold as ‘Manuka’ may be fake1.

Here’s how to avoid the ‘honey trap’.

1. Is it from New Zealand? New Zealand bans imported honey, so if a honey has come from New Zealand, it must have been made there. All pots of genuine Manuka honey adhere to strict standards to prove it is made

from the Manuka bush.

2. Was it packed in New Zealand? Only buy honey marked ‘packed in New Zealand’. This means it has been sealed in New Zealand, keeping it safe from adulteration elsewhere.

3. What is its MGO rating

100% GENUINE MANUKA

HONEY! Every single jar of Manuka Doctor honey

is harvested and packed in

New Zealand

– and where has it been tested? Manuka honey contains methylglyoxal – or MGO. The MGO rating shows the amount in the pot based on milligrams per kilogram. So a 100 MGO honey will have 100 milligrams of MGO per Kg.

4. What does the label say? The label should refer to ‘monofloral’ or ‘multifloral’ honey. If it refers to a ‘blend’ it is likely a mix of cheap European or Asian honey.

5. Is it traceable?

Check that the brand you’re buying can trace its

jars. All Manuka Doctor honey carries the Hive to

Home promise.
