Sirens end league season on low note as Thunder storm to victory

-

Strathclyde Sirens suffered a comprehensive defeat to end the 2021 Vitality Netball Superleague season, going down 64-37 to a relentless Manchester Thunder side.

Despite enjoying their most successful season to date, the Scots were knocked out of finals contention earlier this week when a Covid-19 protocol agreement saw new franchise Leeds Rhinos awarded the full six points for their remaining fixtures. This appeared to still be plaguing the side as they took to court in London’s Copper Box Arena, never quite finding their flow.

Technical director Karen Atkinson acknowledged the superiority of her side’s opponents and said: “That’s the benchmark. That’s where we are aiming for in terms of how relentless we are in execution.

“We’ve got to be pleased with our season and how we have conducted ourselves, the performances we have put out there and the general consistency levels. It’s shown a different Sirens to previous years and set the tone for seasons to come.”
