#THANKYOUNHS

People around the UK thanked the National Health Service as it marked 73 years of supplying free medical care at the point of use.

@Deborahmeadon of TVS Dragon’s Den, wrote: “73 years of keeping us safe, bringing our babies into this World, caring for our loved ones and helping us through sad times. Thank you each and everyone of your who is and has been part of our wonderful health service.”

@angetipper tweeted: “We are truly blessed in this country. Thank you to all the staff and volunteers; you've worked absolutely tirelessly, especially during these times. Proud to say I’ve worked in NHS since my nurse training started in 1994!”

@dcolgan1 asked: “Why don't we require the money given to ‘good’ causes by the National Lottery all to be given to the NHS which, as I understand, badly needs it?”

@Richardbudrden27 wrote: “Time for the decent pay rise that NHS staff deserve.”

@Sarahbrownuk added: “Oh Happy Birthday NHS

– it is such a remarkable achievement that has been tested to the limit this past year – still going, still exceeding expectations, still bearing up to the knocks and cuts, still there for everyone – the people of the NHS are exceptional.”

Pop duo Right Said Fred tweeted out that anyone wearing an anti-covid mask was ‘surplus to requirements’.

@Russellengland wrote: “Back in April last year, over 100 doctors + professors signed a letter urging us all to wear a mask. This was 3 months before the government made them mandatory in shops. Personally, I'd rather listen to the advice of experts than Right Said Fred."

@Ianpounder1 wrote: “Right said Fred accusing others of being ‘surplus to requirements’. The irony.”

@Ghistthewolf added: “First Lee Hurst, now Right Said Fred. Is there something about bald people that were briefly relevant in the 90s that makes them blind to science and reason?”

@xtinewallis wrote: “Reasons I'm going to continue wearing a mask...

1. To protect vulnerable people. 2. I usually get every cold/bug out there but haven't had a single sneeze since wearing a mask.

3. Hardly been affected by hay fever for two summers.

4. Right Said Fred will ignore me.”
