Burger names preliminary squad as Scots learn T20 World Cup opponents
Scotland have been drawn in a group with bangladesh, papua New Guinea and Oman in the first stage of this year’s Twenty20 World Cup.
And if they finish in the top two the Scots will progress to the Super 12 where their likely opponents would include England and Australia. The event, originally scheduled to take place in India, has been moved to UAE and Oman due to Covid and will best aged from october 17 to November 14.
National coach Shane Burger announced a preliminary 40-man squad from which the final group will be selected to participate in the tournament. Gloucestershire all-rounder George scott and opening bats man Scott Steel of Leicestershire are included following confirmation of their eligibility.
Burger said: “It’s exciting to be able to announce 40 names in contention for selection. Every single individual on the list will have the opportunity to play in the trial series and has the chance togo to a world cup. The depth of Scottish cricket is really good at the moment and it’s encouraging to have such a good blend of experience and youth in this line-up.”

England will face Australia, reigning champions the West Indies and South Africa in Group 1 of the Super 12s.
