Amazing Hotels: Life Beyond The Lobby

“Stealing money!” That’s the cry from one parent of The Scotsman Magazine’s acquaintance whenever a celebrity is sent somewhere exotic for a telly show. Which is pretty much daily. Still, Monica Galetti and Giles Coren’s jaunts to expensive/mad hotels always make for a good watch. In this first of a new series they visit the ION Adventure Hotel in Iceland. They get involved in a whole range of activities – from snorkelling in icy water to exploring fresh lava flows and glaciers. Monica visits the hotel’s unlikely neighbour, a geothermal power plant, while Giles goes fishing for the restaurant. Then, for a heated challenge, Giles and Monica join the safety crews who ensure guests are safe on an erupting volcano. Tuesday, BBC2, 8pm
