Ukrainian authorities said Russia broke ceasefire yesterday and destroyed a hospital complex in Mariupol, trapping women and children in the rubble.

@hameledaemae wrot: “My heart breaks for all the children and mothers damaged in this war and despicable destruction of all human beings involved. As a mum myself, I can't describe the anguish these poor people are going through.”

@lordsidcup tweeted: “So we're going to stop pissing about and stop this now, right?”

@Ravisahye1 replied: “No chance, unless we wanna get dragged into a nuclear war with Russia, unfortunately.”

@tomzlong said: “We're already at war with Russia. We just haven't sent boots in.”

@Abarker tweeted: “If this is authentic then Nato or someone has to respond to this. This is barbaric, there is no excuse!”

@gillypotters wrote: “This needs to stop. Innocent lives, children's lives. I can't believe what I'm seeing. Why hasn't the force that was used to find those responsible for 911 been used here? If this continues, what country will be next?”

@Portugeezer replied: “Because the Afghans didn't have nuclear weapons.”

Nicola Sturgeon branded the refugee situation for Ukrainians wanting sanctuary in the UK “unconscionable and indefensible” and called for the UK Government to remove the “wall of bureaucracy” they currently face.

@daveoconnor1309 wrote: “I'll tell you what, I'd be happy just to be out of the Ukraine and away to anywhere from the bombs and gunfire. But that's just me. If it means having to wait to get to family in the UK then so be it, at least I would be alive, which, after all, is the most important thing.”

@jacquiwilkie2 commented: “She’s right, it is a disgrace.”

@Mancalledczar asked: “Hasn’t she got a day job to be getting on with?”

@sconeysconey wrote: “Yesterday as the Ukrainian president addressed [the UK] parliament, Sturgeon pardoned witches. For wrongs committed against them hundreds of years ago. That's all you need to know about Scottish ‘politics’.”

@anomander16 asked: “Doesn't she know any witches who can make a potion or something?”
