The running order for tonight’s Eurovision Song Contest makes UK entry Sam Ryder the 22nd act to perform – later acts often do well.

@warwickhunt said: “Eurovision isn’t a song contest it’s a political ‘who’s our pals?’ gang-fest. Ukraine will win regardless of what dross they serve up. Russia’s banned so saved the ignominy of getting nul points. The largely friendless UK will struggle.” @Liantaylor agreed: “What's the point in bothering? We all know Ukraine will win.” @Victrixian replied: “Why? We all hate a fixed contest and on top of that who likes sympathy votes? They have a great song and I believe they will end up high but I am assuming we, as televoters, will choose what we feel are the best songs.” @deneoctober wrote: “Every year UK commentators manage to squeeze the sour grapes dry. Submit poor songs, expect to get nowhere. Submit good songs, recognise you're in a competition with other good songs. It's not about Uk-phobia, it's not about position, it's not about privilege. It's a song contest!” @tor_a said: “If the song’s good enough and memorable then it shouldn’t matter if it’s 1st or 26th.” @eds_smith said: “Ukraine probably will win but I reckon Norway have the best song and Moldova might win on comedy value.” @cinzywincy wrote: “Uk's position might be important if a) it was a good song and b) we weren't universally hated!”

@racingtyke said: “Honestly, no chance. People just don't vote for us whatever the song or singer. Will be lucky to make the top 10.”

@arkhamfunfair replied: “People haven't voted because we sent garbage not even we had heard of. He's already got a following and can actually sing.” @danielkingal added: “One of the best UK entries for a long time. No doubt he will do well. I hope people don’t slate him if he doesn’t get in the top 5, the only problem with him getting so much hype, people always find a negative.” @Julieturner64 wrote: “What a lovely young man and he can sing. Can we win, not so sure but it's a great song and is surely worthy of some points?” @ollyoveton said: “Wouldn't be great to win on the 100th year of the BBC. It's fate.”
