Ayr hit the Championsh­ip summit after win over Cove as Arbroath remain bottom

Ayr United went top of the Championsh­ip with a 2-1 victory at Cove Rangers.

Mark Reynolds was penalised for handball and Ben Dempsey struck home from the spot. Akinyemi tapped home nine minutes later before Jamie Masson scored a penalty in stoppage time.

Arbroath slipped to a 2-1 home defeat to Queen’s Park.

A smart piece of link-up play saw Simon Murray fire Queen’s Park into a 17thminute lead.

The Spiders doubled their lead after 73 minutes when Scott Williamson slotted home. Substitute Kieran Shanks pulled one back 12 minutes from time.

Raith Rovers won 2-0 at Hamilton to register back-toback league wins. Dylan Easton fired Rovers in front and Jamie Gullan fired in a second from just inside the box.

Meanwhile, Dundee were held to a goalless draw at Morton.

Airdrieoni­ans beat Alloa 2-0 to go top of League One. Gabby Mcgill set the hosts on their way and substitute Call um gallagher wrapped things up late on.

Dunfermlin­e slipped to second after being held to a goalless draw at Kelty Hearts.

Clyde suffered a first league defeat after they were beaten 2-1 at Montrose, Kerr Waddell scoring the winner after Clyde’s Jordan Allan had equalised Rory Mcallister’s opener.

Queen of the South got their first league victory as they came from behind to win 4-1 at Peterhead. Max Gillies had put the home side early on but a Connor Murray double and goals from Josh Todd and Ruari Paton secured the win.

Falkirk sit fourth after a 3-0 win at Edinburgh City with goals from Callumn Morrison, Gary Oliver and Rumarn Burrell.

In League Two, Dumbarton maintained their perfect start to the season with a 3-1 win at Stenhousem­uir. An own goal from defender Thomas Orr set the Sons on their way and Martin Mcniff and Findlay Gray added goals. Ewan O’reilly scored for the hosts.

A 90th-minute penalty from Alan Trouten gave East Fife a 1-0 home win over Forfar, while Bonnyrigg Rose slipped to a first league defeat after they were beaten 2-0 by Albion. Stirling are fourth after a 2-1 win at Annan as Elgin and Stranraer drew 2-2 at Borough Briggs.
