Three capital schools through to semi-finals

Merchiston Castle are through to the semi-finals of the Scottishschoolsboy’sunder-18cup along with Stewart’s Melville College, Strathallan School and Edinburgh Academy.

On Wednesday, holders Merchiston

impressed in their quarter-final to see off George Watson’s College 31-11. Tom Currie, Isaac Coates, Yeadon Davie and Ben Riley scored tries for the victors, with Coates converting them all and kicking a penalty too.

Yesterday, the remaining three last-eight ties were played in terrible weather.

Stewart’s Melville, runnersup last year, edged past Dollar Academy 15-12.

Strathallan travelled to Glasgow and just managed to get the better of Hutchesons’ Grammar School 17-13.

And Loretto School and Edinburgh Academy toughed out a 10-10 draw in Musselburgh, with the visitors just scraping through because they were the away team.
