Who’s Trump?

-

Opposition politicians are denying the result of the 2021 Holyrood election by opposing a Scottish independence referendum, the First Minister’s spokesperson said, comparing them to Donald Trump when he claimed the 2020 US presidential election result was stolen from him.

If anyone is behaving like Trump it's Nicola

Will’m Spence She's losing it. Independence was rejected in 2014. The 2021 election was on a wide range of issues – not just independence. Sturgeon seems to forget that the Westminster Act that created the Scottish Parliament also created her post. The Act clearly laid out those matters which are reserved to Westminster, including the constitution. If she insists on using the next election as a "de facto" referendum she is acting outwith the powers of the parliament.

Peter Lewis Shock, Nationalist politician fixated with bending democracy to fit their narrative. Billy Key

The only people bumping their gums is the SNP. They did not get a majority of the voting electorate, more people voted for other parties so NOT a mandate. They shouldn't have gone to the Supreme Court, at huge taxpayer expense, if they weren't prepared to accept their ruling

Alison Braine I'm guessing she's forgotten about the democratic 2014 independence vote.

Charlene Bowman Typical of the SNP, chucking their dummies out of the pram when things don't go their way.

Fraser Thorburn Ooh, she doesn't like it when reality and lawful democracy coincide to stop her desire to do something unlawful. So, yes... Nicola Sturgeon and her team are going the “full Donald” on this, then accusing others of their own behaviour, which is even more Trumpish.

Craigie Watson By her own logic she is a Trump-ette, denying the result of the 2014 referendum.

David Greenleaf The theory is if you lie enough repeatedly, it will become truth.

Jennifer Turney Oh that's right, turn it away from your failed challenge at the Supreme Court, its Westminster's fault of course. Everyone is against you. Always bitterness, always blame. Such a profoundly negative person. I just wonder if a referendum was now permitted how much she would lose by.

Murray Hutchison Explain [Nicola] how can 64% of the population who didn’t vote for you and the Greens be the minority. 36% including the Greens is not a majority.

Joe Scott So please explain how since 2014 we have won the last 8 elections we have stood in?

Allan Duncan The largest party won, however the total number of votes cast against the SNP was higher than those cast for the SNP. It's an anomaly of the voting system!

George Hall If she won the election why did she go in with the Greens? It’s time Nicola Sturgeon grew up.

Margaret Cairney Pot, kettle, black. She has followed Trump’s playbook for years, with a little Putinesque thrown in for added biliousness.

Gordon Devlin David Cameron's intention in allowing the 2014 referendum was to fire up Scottish nationalism to help him get the Tories into No 10. Sturgeon's aim is to help the Tories stay in No 10 and keep her in at Holyrood. The game's up Nicola, try again in another 30 years!

Hugh Macfarlane Oh for heavens sake Nicola Sturgeon, climb down off your hobby horse.

Pauline Candy I thought [Nicola] had made protests and demonstrations in the vicinity of the parliament building illegal – am I missing something here?

Lavrenti Zapnadi A matter of time before SNP will be investigated for incitement…

Derek Macleod Sturgeon wouldn't know democracy if it looked her in the face. She has disregarded every referendum result, every vote and every ruling that has not gone her or the SNP’S way. She runs Holyrood like a dictatorship and has never been taken to task on anything she has said, done or any of the failings she has been responsible for. This is another example of that she and the SNP just cannot handle anything that goes against them.

Peter John Pendlebury “This election is not about independence. It's about choosing who you want to steer this country through the pandemic.” – Rt Hon Nicola Sturgeon MSP.
