Mazda hints at new electric sports car
Mazda has hinted at a new electric sports car as part of a new £8.9 billion electrification strategy.
The carmaker showed off a new digital concept car inspired by the RX-7 as partofapresentationwhich stressed that its cars would continue to be about driving enjoyment even as they moved to electric power.
The wider annoucement revealed a three-phase approach towards all-e lectric models. In the first, between 2022 and 2024, Mazda says it will “enhance technology development fortheageofelectrification”, and strengthen its large product models, including the CX-60 and CX-80.
In phase two, between 2025 and 2027, Mazda will “transition to electrification”, still using combustion engines as its base for profit. Then in Phase 3, it will undertake a “full-scale launch of EVS”, though the firm expects only 25 to 40 percentofitscarssoldglobally in 2030 to be EVS.
