"I don't have a bottomless pit of taxpayers money to throw at this problem" says Mark Harper, transport minister on BBC’S Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg @woodgnomology says – But he does have £30m to give to rail companies for every day there's a strike. "The most perverse and corrupt rail system we've ever had." — Mick Lynch @Afmediation added – Mark Harper says “I I want to grow the railways”. Indeed. So why are rail fares in the UK among the most expensive in Europe? One word. Privatisation. It has been an unmitigated disaster and the taxpayer still subsidises the rail companies!
@Zero_4 posted – Harper says behaviour within London Fire Brigade “wouldn’t be acceptable in any workplace” You could say the same about several Tory MPS. @Mapdraughteruk saysby refusing to answer, Mark Harper, Secretary of State for Transport, confirmed that while he will not directly negotiate with the rail unions there is a government veto embedded in the contracts of the providers and that he is exercising it until reforms are in effect.
@Helenmagi – Replying to
Mark Harper - So there’s no magic money tree - unless you’re a Tory crony and mate of Matt Hancock, willing to carry out a PPE contract for millions of taxpayer pounds when you have absolutely no idea how to manufacture quality PPE. @clairebubblepop noted – Barristers 15 per cent pay rise. “They had a pay rise in respect of their contributions”, says Harper. Nurses yet to even start negotiations and a real terms pay cut. Tories yet again showing how much they truly value our nurses and our NHS.
@connjam said – Mark Harper keen to reiterate ‘tax payers money’ paying for these things. Dog whistling. What about the tax payers money Rishi Sunak cost us by not renewing insurances to £11bn, £4bn written off in covid fraud and £10bn on fake PPE? Disingenuous to talk of tax payers £. @Esiheraesc reck,ons
– The BBC seems to be selective when there's Tory corruption to be covered. Hence why there is no mention of the Mone £29m scandal, and all the funds Johnson's cronies got through lucrative contracts and track & trace; money that could have funded the nurses pay rise.
