Teachers strike over pupil violence
Teachers at a Glasgow school are taking further strike action this week after a failure to make sufficient progress in addressing violent and abusive pupil behaviour.
Staff members at banner man High walked out yesterday, continuing their action today and tomorrow, with a further eight days planned during december.
Then as uwt teachers' union has been in negotiations with Glasgow city council in a bid to resolve the dispute and said it has made "some progress".
But the union claims the council is still threatening to send staff home without pay if they refuse to stay in a classroom with a pupil threatening their safety. Teachers at the school previously took strike action over the issues at the school.
Dr Patrick Roach, NASUWT general secretary, said: ""Rather than seeking to punish teachers for standing up for their basic right to a safe workplace, Glasgow City Council should be removing obstacles to resolution.”
