#TURKEY
Half of the free range turkeys produced for Christmas in the UK have been culled or have died due to bird flu, British Poultry Council chief executive Richard Griffiths has told MPS.
@darrendix said: “Every year same headline, but pretty much guaranteed I’ll still be eating turkey butties on New Year’s day!” @Doogiesolderdad posted: “Our Crimbo food is preordered. Fingers crossed there's no beef wellington flu.”
@Gemini_guy_1981 posted: “Stocking up the freezer will definitely lead to less and push prices up as a result. I hope they are limiting purchases to stop the ‘toilet roll’ scenario.” @Baldockboro replied: “I know things are tough financially but toilet roll? For Christmas dinner? I’ll start a gofundme for you.” @Only1chambers remarked: “Same story last year, along with no migrant workers, and there were still shelves full of turkeys on Boxing Day.” @Thenudeyogi suggested: “It’s called artificial scarcity. It’s designed to increase demand, prices and profits.” @kelly_marland asked: “Any news on a possible sprout shortage?” @melongondola wondered: “What happens to the human body if there is a lack of turkey over a prolonged period?”
@Lostvoice3 added: “Plenty of frozen birds for ordinary people.”
#CORNISH
Nearly 100,000 people now identify as Cornish, according to the 2021 census in England and Wales – up by more than 33,000 since 2011. @shauntberry posted: “20,000 cheese and onion, and 30,000 steak and ale.” @Robertforster3 said: “Lost in a cosmopolitan ocean more individuals reinforce their identity through regional origin. Could it be that struggle for identity within an increasingly amorphous modern, globalised, environment explains many different forms of emerging new behaviour?”
@iancharris asked: “Is this down more to awareness than anything else? With devolution and regional mayors are we going to see more and more of this across the UK in general?” @organisdchaos wondered: “Can you self-id or do have to have a note from the bakers?”
@hippyg3 added: “What's the big deal about that? We are all from somewhere.”
