Energy funds ‘easier to apply for’

-

A scheme that helps homeowners install more environmentally friendly heating systems is being made easier to apply for, with those in rural areas also able to claim more cash.

Harry Mayers, the head of the advice body Home Energy Scotland, said the changes were being made at "just the right time as we're going into winter with energy prices at record highs".

He spoke out as the Scottish Government confirmed homeowners could now apply for a standalone grant of £7,500 from Home Energy Scotland to help with the costs of getting a new heat pump, instead of having to apply for a loan first.

Those living in rural areas would be able to claim an additional £1,500, in line with a commitment made when Greens joined the SNP in the Scottish Government.

Grants of £7,500 would also be made available to those looking to make their property more energy efficient.
