Boris Johnson will be standing at the next election, it has been confirmed – leaving the door open for a future Tory leadership bid if he wins his seat. @Loosechoops said: “I think we can all look forward to another ‘Portillo moment’, only bigger. Worth staying up for!” @Iangord23992577 posted: “He won’t stand if he knows he is going to lose. Saying he is now meets the demands of the Tory Party and keeps his options open. He only thinks about himself.” @timcollettuk commented: “As my local MP I’m very much looking forward to seeing his name on my ballot.” @Samfmswindoin remarked: “I am 99.9 per cent sure he will jump for a safer vacant seat. He’s just had to confirm he’s standing before the Monday deadline. He’s not daft – he knows that’s a seat he could lose.” @Richardcroft12 declared: “Good, I'm dying to see him publicly humiliated.” @Markvipond responded: “Good. If things go badly at the election, we're going to need him to rebuild the party and get Starmer out before he can do too much damage.” @Gary73016352 wondered: “Has he spent much time in his constituency of late? Good people of Uxbridge and South Ruislip, tell him to get lost.”

@Monarch13t remarked: “It will be very interesting to see how many people will vote for someone who has absolutely trashed the country and normalised lies and downright thievery.” @empresssheba posted: “I was so sure he'd lose his first mayoral election I didn't even bother to watch. Similarly the last election. He's made of Teflon and Tory voters are nothing if not loyal.” @Gordy_mc1ntosh said: “It's amazing what can be done from the beach these days, hybrid working, fighting elections, representing constituents… If only he can fit it in around those lucrative speaking tours it will all work out.”

@never_home1 commented: “Just because he says he’ll do something today doesn’t remotely mean he will carry it out tomorrow.” @Everymansmith suggested: “Same ruse as running for leader. Announce, see the response, react accordingly and make up some reason why he can't nearer the time.” @_M_A_Z_Z_A added: “He’d fight for a seat at the local buffet with more vigour.”
