Former chancellor and health secretary Sajid Javid has said he will stand down as an MP at the next general election. The MP for Bromsgrove said he had made the decision “after much reflection”. @Needdm said; “Understandable. He is 53 next week, and probably two years from the next election. The Tories are unlikely to win it, so he would be 60 before they had a chance of winning an election. Politics now seems to be a young man’s game.”

@Suesuezep posted: “After much reflection… I have decided that I will not be standing again at the next General Election, because I haven't got a snowball’s chance in burning hell of winning it after what we have done to the country and its people.”

@dirk1978 commented: “Bromsgrove would vote in a duck with a blue rosette. I don't think this has anything to do with his prospects at the next election and is more that he just doesn't need the hassle.”

@OWS1892 suggested: “That resignation letter is a lot of words to say ‘I don't fancy my chances’.” @greghove remarked: “Step down? You all think you are the chairman of some company or something. Resign now and give someone else a chance in a by-election.” @Swen_2017 said: “Wise decision. The Tories are no longer the same party it was when you joined. It’s taken a hard turn rightwards.” @Social_daisy remarked: “Just seems to be attention seeking really? Why bother announcing it now. Hoping for some job offers mainly? Tough times and that?” @Mistake commented: “I simply don’t understand why so many Tory MPS are quitting before the next General Election. Don't they want to be there when all the Brexit benefits start kicking in, unicorns appear and people are singing their names in the streets?” @rising_runner posted: “You were a rarity in modern politics, a man of integrity and commitment. We need more not less.” @freddioe801 declared: “Going home to spend more time with your money? The lot of you need to resign now. The country is on its knees.” @Bennyjj81 added: “Not a single backbone amongst you all. You know a battering is incoming and you haven't got the stomach to face the wrath of the public for what you've done.”
