Plans for another extension of Edinburgh’s tram line, linking Granton to Dalkeith through the city centre, are set to be considered by the council early next year.

Somebody sitting in a big office with time on his hands is coming up with these ridiculous ideas.

Pearl Macleod EH1 to airport (nine miles) has taken ten years and it’s still a work in progress. Granton to Dalkeith is 14 miles so I think this would take a minimum 25 years. Good luck.

Krzysztof Sasyn Bring in the crew that built the Borders rail link. Up and running in half the time.

Jimmy Dobson So why have tram lines not been put into/provided for in the Cammo development, the Turnhouse Road development and the massive building projects around Gogar and the airport? No chance of getting further taxpayers’ money for this latest fantasy anyway because there isn’t any to spare.

Graeme Robertson Stay away from Dalkeith with the trams. We don’t want the chaos!

April Drummond Why waste even more money on transport when there is a perfectly good bus service in and around Edinburgh. Use the money sorting out the roads and pavements, which are a disgrace.

Jayne Hogg Trams are definitely the way of the future for the city. Would be great to see the proposed route and see if it includes Musselburgh and Portobello beach as part of that route. Hooking that in early would provide real potential for the development of the beaches, tourism, retail and commercial growth.

What I do not understand is why do the trams have overhead power lines that blight the cityscape but are also incredibly expensive. Why do the trams use 19th century technology. Tesla use rechargeable car batteries why cannot Edinburgh trams use the same technology and save a fortune in the process.

Martin Welsh Sounds feasible but public transport engineers will tell us that using electricity directly from overhead wiring is way more efficient and environmentally friendly in the long run. An investment in the future.

Henry Campbell Gillan It took them years to get down Leith Walk I will be six feet under by the time they get to Dalkeith.

George Cowan It's not the most popular project ever, but I do believe they should do this, and get it done ASAP to change public opinion. They call it a network, but until they branch off somewhere, it will only ever be a line from Atob.

Jonathan Hume It’s always what they want to do in the future, it’s never about how to sort out the mess they have made at present. Why is that? Too thick. It’s way beyond them.

Warren Burrows Make better use of the money and clean up Princes Street, give businesses lower rents to encourage them back to open all the shops that lie empty. Who decides what the public money is spent on? They aren’t doing what’s best for the people of Edinburgh – it’s all aimed at tourists.
