Plans to ban migrants from claiming asylum in the

UK will save lives, home secretary Suella Braverman insisted. The deaths of four people trying to cross the Channel on Wednesday were a ‘sobering reminder’ of ‘why we have to end these crossings’, she said.. @Theenglishrebel wrote: “These so-called asylum seekers manage to get from Africa and Asia into Europe, running for their lives apparently, travelled through Europe to get to Calais. And somehow managed to cough up £5,000 each to get from safe country France to safe country UK. Why?” @haishmacdona18 replied: “One thing – the UK is a soft option, even the mayor in French coast said so.” @kitty10046 wrote: “If the MPS had to pay, they would fix the issue immediately!” @chris@law# said: “They're desperate. To take advantage of whatever they can – legal and illegal." @streetskitchen tweeted: “While the Tories acknowledge there are no safe & legal routes to the UK, it's important to note that France has repeatedly asked them to open a legal migration centre near Calais, to avoid these dangerous crossings. These deaths are a political choice.” @greenbali said: “It is time to open a safe authorised route to claim asylum, starting in Calais The weather is desperate. We need to start saving lives.” @Porteousmary added: “I wish that would stop them coming but it won't. I had faith in Braverman to sort it out but she's done absolutely nothing just like [Priti] Patel.”

@jak_mi;s said: “People need informing that those people were on those boats because there were no other ways to claim a visa but to try and get here and do it on British soil, Braverman and this government have practically orchestrated every one of these tragedies.”

@chrismcg21 said: “How Braverman can stand up and say how sorry she is. They died because of Tory policies for 12 years.” @Wesaveenergy wrote: “Ask yourself Braverman, why would anyone risk their life unless they were absolutely desperate? You can save lives by providing a safe route for refugees.” @Arenig12 said: “Suella Braverman has all the sincerity of a female scorpion when sharing thoughts on the migrant Channel tragedy.”
