Let Her Loose and Love Lies give Watson a quick double at Ayr

- Gordon Brown

Archie Watson was a happy man after bagging the first two races at Ayr last night with Let Her Loose and Love Lies.

Let Her Loose, ridden by his wife Brodie Hampson, landed the opening Chandon Garden Spritz Female Amateur Jockeys’ Handicap, before Hollie Doyle steered Love Lies to victory in the Whyte & Mackay Maiden Stakes.

“Let Her Loose was bought for these amateur races and I thought Brodie gave her another lovely ride,” the Lambourn trainer said. “She’s got an entry at Catterick in a few days time but we’ll see how she comes out of this first.

“Love Lies is a filly we’ve always liked and slighter softer ground and seven-furlongs will suit in time.”

Jim Goldie was on the mark when Abduction, ridden by Shane Gray, gained a third course and distance success in the Tennent’s Lager Handicap.

“They went a good gallop and that played into his hands,” said Goldie. “I’m well pleased as he switched off beautifully and can be sometimes unlucky in running.”

Meanwhile, at Newbury today, Majestic Beauty can maintain her unbeaten record in the Highclere Thoroughbred Racing St Hugh's Stakes.

Trained by Alice Haynes, this daughter of Havana Grey has victories at Catterick and Musselburgh to her credit so far and while this Listed heat represents a leap in quality, she can rise to the challenge.

Both the second and third from her opening Catterick success have gone on to strike gold themselves, although her Musselburgh novice form is perhaps not quite as strong with only one other previous winner in the line up.

There was much to like about the way Majestic Beauty battled back that day to pip Cover Point by a head - especially returning from an 88-day break - with that pair pulling over five lengths clear of the third to mark them as a cut above.

This appears a typically competitive contest, but Majestic Beauty should step forward again from her latest win.
