Burnton lamb leads CD at £2500

-

REDUCED numbers for the Bluefaced Leicester Association’s show and sale at Castle Douglas, saw shearling ram averages fall by more than £26 on the year while ram lambs jumped in excess of £220.

Sale leader at £2500 was the reserve champion, selected by pre-sale judge, Finlay Robertson of the Beeches flock. This ram lamb from Steven and Trevor Fallows of the Burnton flock, New Cumnock, is a son of the 8000gns Midlock P3 bought at Carlisle last year, bred from a ewe by Carry House K11, a son of Jackpot. Champion at New Cumnock and Stewartry and reserve at Dumfries, he sold jointly to R Jardine, Upper Hardland and W Lockhart and Co, Culdoach, Kirkcudbright.

Shearling rams from the Lockhart’s, Laggan Park flock from Moniaive, Thornhill, proved popular with sales at £2100 and £2000. The dearest, by a home-bred son of a Firth ram, that had been used as a lamb to produce Scotch Mule ewe lambs up to £158 at Castle Douglas, was snapped up by Messrs Bradwell.

Selling at £2000 was a son of the N11 Steel purchased at Carlisle.

Robert McKie, Finniness, Balmagie, enjoyed a good trade selling a shearling at £2000. He is by the M3 Branshangan.

The pre-sale champion, a shearling from Alex and Anders Brown’s Macqueston pen from Tynron,Thornhill, made £1800 to R and M Dunlop, Pinvalley. He is by the Marriforth N2.
