Gimmer tops Blue Texel at 4800gns

-

A gimmer from Henry Jewitt’s Barnard Castle-based Sunnybank flock topped a sale of pedigree Blue Texels at Carlisle, when selling for 4800gns.

The ET entry purchased by Messrs Taylor and Son, Preston, is bred from the Whatmore Bentley daughter, Boyo Diana, and sired by an imported Sunnybank ram. She was female champion and supreme overall at the pre-sale show.

On the debit side, Mr Jewitt went to 2200gns, for some of his own genetics. This was Mark Wattie’s Tonley Gusto, a February-born ram lamb from Mains of Tonley, Alford, Aberdeenshire. Gusto is bred from Sunnybank Eye of The Tiger, a daughter of an imported Sunnybank ram, and sired by Whatmore E-male.

Adding to Mr Wattie’s success was a 2000gns sale for Tonley Gerald ET, another ram lamb bred from a flush from the Joe’s Alvin daughter, Hackney Cashmaker, and sired by Sunnybank Exchange Rate. The buyers were Messrs Paxton, Duns.

North Humberside breeders, Messrs Tennant, Bridlington, bought several of the lead priced lots including the top priced male at 2800gns. This was Pistyll Godfather ET, bred from a flush from a Pistyll ewe by Whatmore Worcester. Consigned by GM and HM Francis, Pistyll Uchaf, Carmarthen, Godfather is sired by Cairnrock Fully Loaded.

They also bought the next two highest priced gimmers at 2000gns and 1200gns from David Alexander’s Millside flock from Galston. Both were sired by Barallan Eagle and bred from home-bred ewes by a Beili Blues sire. The 1200gns gimmer stood third in her class at the pre-sale show.
