Texel shearlings top Hexham multi-breed rams at £3400

-

A Texel shearling ram from Richard and Chris Thornton, Cornhills, topped Hexham and Northern Marts’ multibreed sale at Hexham, at £3400 with others at £2200 and £1900.

The sale which saw an increased entry of 432 Texel shearling and ram lambs from more than 50 exhibitors, sold to £3400 for an entry from the Kirkwhelpington-based team purchased by Messrs Scott, Falla, Jedburgh.

The pre-sale champion from the Reed Brothers, Lands Farm, made £3200 selling to Len Smith, with another at £2600.

Mrs Raine, Townfoot, also had a good day with a Texel shearling at £2400 selling to Ruth Mitcheson, Bolam Lake House.

A three-quarter Texel from Colin and Andrew Whitfield, High Castle Dene, caught his eye too when selling for £2800, with the team selling 15 to average £1008.

Shearling rams from TL Foster, Lowes Fell, topped the Bluefaced Leicester Association’s sale, which included a major reduction of the Court Green flock, with sales at £1200 for the pre-sale champion, £1100 and £1000 three times.

Suffolk shearling and ram lambs met a much more selective trade although the top runs still saw a buoyant demand.

Leading the section at £1900 was a shearling from J Leiper and Son, Black Heddon, whose run of 20 yearlings averaged £906.
