BREEDING sheep peaked at £202 for Mule gimmers from Kirkland, Forgue, at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of 7904 ewe lambs, gimmers, ewes O and store lambs.

The sale, which included island consignmen­ts saw 660 ewe lambs sell to £145 for Texels from Rinaiten, Glenrinnes, to average £109.68, with 2043) gimmers cashing in at £154.04. Breeding ewes (623) averaged £102.46 having sold to £170 for twoyear-old Half-breds from Backmuir, Keith.

Store lambs (1983) averaged £77.89, from a top price of £110 for Dutch Spotted crosses from Craiglands, Lonmay, with Orkney and Shetland entries (2243) levelling at £77.26 with a top of £96 for Suffolks from Kjemlea, Uphouse. The 352 Lewis consigned lambs sold to £84 for Texel crosses from 41b Lower Barvas, Isle of Lewis, to average £64.30.

A one-crop Texel ewe topped J Douglas and Family’s Mains of Airies production sale, staged through C and D Auction Marts’ when selling for £720 to R Stodart, Forfar.

Mains of Airies Texel gimmers peaked at £500 twice selling to WJ Boyd, Cambuslang and R Stodart.

The family’s sale of 68 stock ewes and 38 stock gimmers, averaged £254.21 and £305.56 respective­ly.

The firm’s annual Blackface sale included the dispersal of stock from Auchenbrac­k, Tynron.

Tiree

ALL classes of stock sold at favourable levels with mainland centres and to sellers’ advantage at United Auctions’ sale of 27 cattle and 1436 sheep, where a top price of £1740 was achieved for an Aberdeen Angus bull from A Lamont, Croish.

The same home produced the lead priced bullock at £1430 for an Aberdeen Angus, while a Limousin from E Mackinnon, Hillcrest, attracted the lead price per kg at 250p.

Breeding sheep peaked at £390 for a Blue Texel shearling ram from Kenneth Mackinnon, 24 Balephetri­sh, with gimmers to £175 for Mules from Colin Mackinnon, Greenhill, Balevullin and ewe lambs to £142 again for Mules from I and J Macarthur, Lochside, Barrapol.

Texels from IC Brown, 12 Crossapol, led the store lambs at £104 while cast ewes were topped at £150 for Texels from Kathleen Munn, The Farm, Kenovay.

Stirling

BULLOCKS (588) and heifers (499) averaged 233.17p per kg and 229.82p, respective­ly, at United Auctions’ sale of 1131 store cattle, young bulls and 223 out of spec cattle.

Top price was 271.10p per kg for a 570kg AberdeenAn­gus cross bullock from Nethertown, or £1620, for a 602kg Limousin cross from Farden.

A 457kg Simmental cross from Ormsary, led the heifers at 275.70p, with another Simmental weighing 682kg from Stoopshill, making £1640.

Dairy bullocks (42) averaged 200.98p having sold to 218.10p for a 525kg Montbeliar­de cross from Knockeffri­ck, and to £1230 for a 574kg entry of the same cross from Nethertown.

Young bulls sold to 213.90p and £860 for a Charolais cross from The Ross, with 201 beef cows and bulls led by Limousin crosses. They peaked at 245p and £2090, from Hilton of Beath and Strawfrank, respective­ly, to average 189.87p.

Dairy cows (22) averaged 151.23p having sold to 178.60p for a Holstein Friesian cross from Gowston, and to £1410 for a Holstein cross from Claylands.

The 89 rearing cattle were topped by two Simmental cross stirks at £700 from Messrs Hair, East Kilbride.

CHAROLAIS cattle proved the star attraction at Harrison and Hetheringt­on’s show and sale selling to a top of £1800 from Messrs Kyle, Spoutbank, who sold 65 bullocks of the same breed to average £1440.46.

Messrs Fisher, Lairdlaugh, Castle Douglas, sold the lead priced heifer, a Limousin at £1670.

The show and sale of Blackface wedder lambs was topped at £76.50 by the champion winners from Harehead, purchased by the judge, Grant Maxwell, Faughhill.

The second prize winners from Bothwell, made £75.00. The third prize pen from Horseupcle­ugh, realised £68.00.

Cattle from Messrs Douglas, Saughtree, the fortnightl­y sale of stores, selling Limousin cross bullocks at £1170 or 247.7p per kg and heifers to £880 or 234.7p for more of the same.

Huntly

GEORGE Parrock, Rothiemay, produced the champion and reserve winners at United Auctions’ sale of 629 store cattle, and annual weaned calf show and sale, which went on to sell for £1640 and £1340, respective­ly.

Judge, Stuart Forman, Fridayhill, found his champion in a 535kg Limousin cross heifer, which sold for the lead price to W Cameron, Burnside of Gight.

The reserve was a Limousin cross bullock from the same home, made £1340.

Charolais crosses weighing 508kg from Messrs McGillvray, Auchnascra­w, took the champion pen of heifers and sold for £1340 to Messrs McKilligan, Mahon. The same home also produced the champion pen of four bullocks with 561kg Charolais crosses which made £1435 to W Cameron, Burnside of Edingight.

Overall, 351 bullocks sold to average 254.3p (+14p per kg on the year) having sold to 291.6p per kg for four 396kg Limousin crosses from Clinterty, Aberdour, or £1620 for a 605kg Limousin from Parks, Rothiemay.

The 263 heifers, levelled at 242.4p (+6.3p per kg) selling to 306.5p per kg or £1640 for the champion, a 535kg Limousin from Parrock, Rothiemay.

OTMS (15) sold averaged 176p per kg selling to 208.6p per kg or £1930 for a Simmental cross from Burnside, Marypark. Top gross being £1930 for the same animal.

Thainstone

WEANED calves met a buoyant demand at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale, selling to a top of £1900 for a 694kg Limousin cross from Quoy Belloch, Deerness, or 292.6p per kg for a pair of 458kg Simmental crosses from Lochend.

At the show and sale, judged by Melvin Stuart, Milltown of Birness, Ellon,

overall champion was a 534kg Limousin cross steer scaling 534kg from Michael Robertson, Fodderlett­er, Tomintoul, which sold to Ian Sim, Kincraig, Brechin for £1500.

Mr Robertson also picked up the reserve with a 462kg Limousin cross heifer that later made £1640 to D Lumgair and Sons, Gask, Letham.

John and Ewan Gordon, Wellheads, Huntly, landed the award for the best pair of Charolais with two 448kg heifers which later made £1280 to Charles Proctor, Mains of Tollo, Turriff.

Overall, 339 bullocks averaged 266.4p per kg and 345 heifers cashed in at 254.3p.

Outwith the show and sale, a further 218 store bullocks averaged 244.2p having sold to 305.7p for a 484kg Limousin cross from Keldra, Firth and £1790 for a 660kg British Blue cross from Appieteen, Sandwick, while 42 bullocks levelled at 240.5p, selling to 282.2p for a 450kg from Lochend, Westray and £1670 for a pair of 686kg from Brunthouse, Flotta.

The 315 store heifers were topped at 292.6p for 458kg Simmental crosses from Lochend and £1900 for a £694kg Limousin cross from Quoy Belloch, Deerness, to balance out at 246.4p.

Aberdeen-Angus heifers (68) averaged 231.1p having sold to 241.6p for 478kg entries from Lochend and £1380 gross for a pair of 594kg.

Bulls (8) sold to 202.4p for a 578kg Aberdeen Angus from Skiddy, Rendall and £1400 for a 820kg Aberdeen Angus cross from Brunthouse.

On Tuesday, some 4473 store and breeding sheep including west island and island consignmen­ts, were sold to a top of £130 for Mule ewe lambs from Mains of Glenbuchat, Strathdon and for a pen of store lambs from Midtown, Strachan.

Island consigned store lambs (2090) averaged £76.05 having sold to £103 for Texels from Glenisla, Gulberwick, with the 225 west island lambs cashing in at £70.39 and to a top of £97.50 for Suffolks from Barvas, Glebe.

Breeding sheep (293) averaged £124.64 and sold to £176 for Texel gimmers from Rennieshil­l, Newmachar.

Bullocks (370) averaged 242.5p having sold to 279.3p for a 487kg Charolais cross from Gerston, Halkirk and £1750 twice for a 737kg Charolais cross and 705kg Limousin cross from Brae Edge, Castletown.

Heifers (382) averaged 232.4p, peaking at 280.5p and £1470 for a 524kg Limousin cross from Vauldale, Nybster.

Aberdeen Angus and native-bred bullocks were topped at 251.1p for three 476kg entries from Backlass Croft, Watten, or £1450 for three 604kg stots from Stemster Mains, Halkirk. The 60 head averaged 236.1p.

Similarly bred heifers were topped at 241.8p for a pair of 521kg entries from Backlass Croft, and £1300 for two 586kg heifers from 5 Lochend, Castletown.
