Dippen heifer calf makes £5800 at UA

A spring-born Charolais heifer calf scaling 282kg from DW Semple and Son, Dippen, Campbeltow­n, sold for the top price of £5800 at United Auctions’ sale of 1294 suckled calves and 7438 store lambs and feeding sheep.

Overall, 547 heifers sold to 2056.70p per kg and £5800 for Dippen’s 282kg Charolais calf, to average 262.41p (+2.63p on the year).

The 747 bullocks also improved slightly on the year (+2.95p) to level at 265.90p, having sold to 344.30p, or £1880, for the overall champion, a 546kg British Blue cross from Monzie Farms.

The reserve, a 600kg Limousin cross from Ross Farms, Wester Middleton, sold for £1820.

Store lamb averages saw Beltex level at 91.72 (-£1.47 on the week); Texel crosses at £85.17 (-£4.05); Suffolk crosses, £78.95 (+£3.85); Mules, £80.41 (-£2.84); Cheviots, £71.31 (-£6.68) and Blackfaces levelled at £59.84 (-£1.22).
