Abbey Park heifer tops KS at £1950
A Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Atkinson, Abbey Park, Bleatarn, was presented the championship honours and secured the lead price of £1950 at a prize show and sale of store cattle at Harrison and Hetherington’s Kirkby Stephen mart.
The 15-month-old was purchased by Kelsey Maughan and Chris Pears.
Abbey Park also sold another similarly aged Limousin cross heifer at £1720 to Messrs Wilson, Arngill House, Lunedale.
The judge, Will Harrison, Bishop Burton, awarded reserve to the first prize Limousin cross steer, a 13-month-old Limousin from Messrs Atkinson, Hawkrigg, Colby and later purchased his choice at £1655.
Top price amongst the bullocks was £1675 paid for a pair of 15-month-old British Blues from Messrs Hughes, Dona Close, Asby, purchased by D Barker.
By the end of the day, steers averaged £1178.98 (+£34.02 on the year) with heifers at £1116.32.
