Sunnyside champion calf leads at £3200

AVERAGES improved on the year at Harrison and Hetheringt­on’s prize show and sale of suckled calves at Carlisle, where 420 head levelled at £1220.90 – up £47.62.

Steers cashed in at £1229.97 (+£40.97) with heifers at £1213.39 (+£52.39), having sold to £3200 for the overall champion from Shona Laird, Sunnyside, Cumnock.

Her supreme, selected by judges, Gordon and Harry Amos, West View, Lincolnshi­re, a Limousin cross heifer was purchased by local farmer Amy Wilson, Hardrigg Hall, Penrith.

The reserve overall, was the first prize Limousin steer from David Wright, Woodend, which later sold for £1600 to Messrs Bently, The Gables, Keswick.

Second top price was £2800 paid for a Limousin cross heifer from Gary Bell, Haas Side, Lockerbie.

John and Craig Robertson, Newton of Logierait, Pitlochry, also had a good day, selling the lead priced steer, a Limousin cross at £2100, with heifers of the same cross to £2300.
