Alison wins top showmanship title at Lanarkshire Calf Show

-

SCOTLAND’S Holstein young breeders were out in force with some outstanding entries for their annual calf show held at Lawrie and Symington’s Agricultural Centre, Lanark.

There were 31 handlers and 60 calves forward for the judge, Max Davies, of the Davlea herd, to place.

Competition was stiff with the prize winners from each calf and showmanship class qualifying for the national All Breeds All-Britain Calf Show, in Peterborough, from October 14-16.

Following five tough classes, Alison Lawrie, Myremill, landed the supreme in the showmanship section with Neil Sloan, Knowe Farm, taking reserve and Katie Watson, Muir Farm, taking honourable mention.

Top honours amongst the calves went to John McGregor and Son’s yearling heifer, Glenvalley Sidekick Hope, from Parkmill, led by son, Cameron McGregor. Reserve was East Kilbridebased David Gray’s Grayridge Milo Laurie Sheik, with Brian and Michael Yates’ Logan Jody, Kiwi Red, taking honourable mention, for herd from East Logan, Castle Douglas

East Logan’s Logan Jordy Kiwi Red also took the championship in the Red and White section. Runnerup was George Templeton’s Knoweside Diamondbank Denise from Knowe Farm, with honourable mention again going to Brian and Michael Yates with Logan Lalenite Shania Red.

Premier Exhibitor Trophy, for the most points attained throughout the day, went to Kevin and Alison Lawrie.
