Ram lamb leads Kirkby at £10,000

-

A top price of £10,000, 45 four-figure sales, and an overall average of £957.12 with a 95% clearance were the main highlights of last weekend’s Bluefaced Leicester breed sale of males and females at Kirkby Stephen.

The event, which attracted a catalogued entry of 236 was topped by a ram lamb from Messrs Lord’s Hewgill flock from West Dowgill, North Stainmore, which sold in a three-way split to Malcolm Thornborrow and sons, Gary and Craig, Easter Dawyck, Stobo, Peebles; Messrs Porter, Riddings, Richmond, North Yorkshire and Messrs Bulman, Northallerton.

Selling at this price was the Hewgill R20 lamb, a son of the Marriforth P1, out of a Hewgill G49-sired dam

Next at £3000 was Messrs Dawson’s home-bred aged ram, Kentmere Hall N5, a son of the Carry House M26 out of a Low Tipalt G1-sired dam. The buyers were Messrs Buckle, Bleathgill, Barras, Kirkby Stephen.

The same home also sold the lead priced shearling ram at £2800, to Messrs Harrison, High Beck Head, Barnard Castle. This was Kentmere Hall P6, also by the Carry House M26 tup but out of a Highberries K6-sired daughter.

Second top priced lamb at £2800 was an entry from Martyn Archer’s Carry House flock from Hexham. Carry House R36, a son of the Asby Hall L1 out of a Carry House Jackpot J2-sired ewe was purchased by Messrs Ivinson, Hole House, Ousby.

Two lambs sold for £2500 with the first from Messrs Brown, Asby Hall. Asby Hall R10 by Smearsett M1, headed home with Messrs Collingwood, Ambling Gate, Bishop Auckland.

Matching that price was Great Asby R1 a Greenhow P2-sired entry from Messrs Hayton, Asby Grange, purchased by Messrs Ivinson, Hole House.

The overall champion at the pre-sale show, judged by Richard Hargreaves, Meadow Bank, Barley, was the first prize shearling ram Midlock P62 from Messrs Wight, Midlock, Crawford, which went on to sell for £1200 to Messrs Dent, Naby View.
