Herdwicks hit 15,000gns

-

HERDWICK shearling rams from AG and KF Nicholson, Swinside End, Lorton, proved the star attraction at the two-day show and sale at Cockermouth, when securing the top two prices at 15,000gns and 13,000gns.

The dearest found a new home with Anthony Hartley, Turner Hall Farm, Seathwaite, Broughton In Furness, with the latter selling in a two-way split to Neil Hardisty, Howhall, and Joe Weir, Chapel Farm.

The pre-sale championship was awarded to an aged ram from M and J Potter, Ulcatrow, Matterdale. He was bred by AJ and L Birkett, Birk Howe, and made 10,000gns selling to A and M Brennand, Ellerbeck, Carnforth.

On the first day, the female championship was presented to a pen of ewes from P Bland and J Barnes, Knott Houses, Grasmere which later sold for the top price of £320.

Reserve went to a pen of gimmers from Messrs Bland, Clea Hall, Wigton which made £300. Ewe lambs peaked at £92 for CI Hartley, Barfield, Bootle.
