Humbleheug­h shearling ram tops Longtown at £1900

A North Country Cheviot shearling ram from WD Allen, Humbleheug­h, secured the top price of £1900 at a breed sale at C and D Auctions’ Longtown market.

A son of Gilston Wallop, out of a home-bred ewe by Soutra Weapon, he sold to W and J Thomson, Hownam Grange, Kelso. Some 136 registered sheep sold to average £401, down £23 on the year for 10 more sold.

The sale of 95 traditiona­l Bluefaced Leicesters averaged £461, with a lead of £1100 paid for a shearling from Alan McClymont, Kirkstead, Yarrow.

The Border ewe sale saw 11,361 head sell to £250 for draft ewes from RH Paton, Castle Crawford.

North Country Cheviot ewes peaked at £200 from

Messrs Campbell, Naver House, Thurso, whilst Blackface ewes achieved the same price for Wanwood Partners, Wanwood Hill, Aslton.
