SOME 1388 store lambs and feeding ewes were forward for Caledonian Marts’ sale, which reached £99 for a cross lamb from DC Fletcher, Persabus, Isle Of Islay.

On Monday, the firm sold 512 store cattle where bullocks and heifers averaged 224p per kg and 221p respective­ly.

Judge Craig Malone, Pitcairn, awarded the championsh­ip to a 295kg heifer from B McMillian, Eorabus, Isle of Islay, and backed his decision by buying her for £2200. The same home also secured the reserve honours which went on to make £1450.

Bullocks sold to 393p for a Limousin once again from Eorabus, and to £1440 for a pen of Ayrshires from JB Steel, Kibbleston, Renfrewshi­re.

Heifers reached £1600 for a Limousin from Messrs Phillips, Mains of Minnydow, Castle Douglas.

Weaned cattle peaked at £1540 for a Limousin bull from Norman Farming Company, Carlisle.

Calves reached £460 for a Limousin bull from Messrs Marshall, Brownrigg, who also topped the heifers at £440.

On Friday, the firm’s monthly beef breeding sale reached £2900 for a Limousin cow and calf from Messrs Chappelhow, Clifton Hill, Penrith.

Charolais cross bullocks from Lower Ardmannoch topped the sale at 275.90p per kg and £1785 for 580kg and 653kg animals respective­ly.

Heifers realised 285.70p for 441kg Aberdeen-Angus crosses and British Blue crosses from Kipperoch, and to £1560 for a 658kg Simmental cross from North Deanhead.

Young bulls (9) averaged 231.73p and sold to 270.80p and £1075 for a Charolais cross from Kynachan.

On Monday, the firm sold 13,238 store lambs, feeding and breeding sheep, to a top of £480 for black Cheviot gimmers from Over Finlarg.

Store lambs reached £108 for Beltex from Monzie, with this section averaging £96.80 (+£5.08 on the week).

Suffolk crosses balanced out at £85.97 (+£1.86), with Texel crosses at £87.03 (+£3.95) and Cheviots at £76.22 (+£4.91). Mules cashed in at £85.35 (+£4.94) and Blackfaces at £52.75 (-£7.09).

BULLOCKS led the way at Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale of 1001 store cattle, having sold to 298.7p per kg for a pair of 452kg Limousins from Clury, Dulnain Bridge, and to £1590 for an 670kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Knockdee, Halkirk, to average 235.4p.

Heifers cashed in at 224.0p and sold to 276.2p for a pen of Wagyu crosses from Knockdee, Halkirk and to £1320 for a pen of Aberdeen-Angus from Dounie, Edderton.

Also forward were 5269 breeding and store sheep, which achieved a top call of £185 for Cheviot ewes from Birchbank, Knockan, with breeding ewes averaging £70.82 (-£12.69 on the year).

Gimmers cashed in at £115.21 (+£1.88) and sold to £165 for a pen of Cheviots from Ose Farm, Struan.

Some 5475 lambs also went through the ring this week to average £59.97 having sold to £112 for a pair of Texels from Broombank, Culloden Moor.

A pair of Limousin heifers from Gass, secured the top price of £1630 at Craig Wilson’s sale of 663 store cattle.

Heifers cashed in at 221.4p per kg, whilst bullocks averaged 226.8p having sold to £1585 for a pair of Aberdeen Angus from Clonherb.

On Tuesday, seven dairy cattle sold to a top price of £2150 for a freshly calved heifer from M and A Steel and Sons, Ditton.

A large entry of 180 calves and stirks reached £1080 for a Charolais cross bull from J Heath, Blair.

Heifers were topped at £900 by an Aberdeen-Angus cross heifer from M and J Montgomeri­e, Newlands.

Top price among the calves was £600 paid for a Simmental cross bullock from Messrs Young, Lochhill, whilst heifers sold to £505 for a British Blue cross from JR Goldie and Son, Buistonhea­d.

The 66 breeding cattle reached a top of £3350 for a Limousin heifer with bull calf at foot from High Barness.

Also forward were 1920 breeding and feeding sheep, which sold to £170 for two pens of Texel cross gimmers from JR Stevenson and Sons, Middlehous­e.

Store lambs peaked at £96 for Suffolks from A McColl, Routanburn.

Some 32 tups were also forward for sale which sold to £600 on two occasions – for a Texel shearling from T Laird, Carbello, and again for a traditiona­l-type Bluefaced Leicester shearling from J Shennan, Knockgerra­n.

Lambs sold to £480 for a crossing-type Bluefaced Leicester from J Nisbet, Sorn Mains.

BULLOCKS (435) and heifers (242) averaged 240.3p per kg and 233p respective­ly at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ weekly store cattle sale.

A top price among the bullocks of 287.4p per kg was paid for a 334kg Limousin cross from Davidson Farms, Crichie, and to £1530 for a pen of four 656kg Charolais crosses from Croft Na Creich, North Kessock.

Heifers sold to 291.7p for a 456kg Limousin cross from Auchterbla­ir, Carrr Road, and to £1450 for a 662kg Simmental cross from Meadaple House, Rothienorm­an.

Limousins led the bull trade which sold to 273.1p per kg for a pair of 324kg crosses from Sandford Farms, Balmedie and to £1260 for a 612kg entry from Hindstones, New Aberdour.

On Tuesday, the firm sold 7267 store and breeding sheep including island consignmen­ts, to a top of £210 for Texels from Ballochvie­w, Grange.

Ewe lambs (331) averaged £110.38 having sold to £130 for Mules from Scollys Cross, Strachan.

Store lambs (2352) cashed in at £77.01 per head having sold to a top price of £114 for Texels from Backward Croft, Kemnay.

The 414 store cattle forward for sale saw bullocks and heifers average 219.7p per kg and 230p respective­ly.

A feature of the sale was the consignmen­t of 62 British Blue cross Salers heifers from A and F Baillie, Low Glasnick which sold to £1460 to average £1172 or 266.4p/kg

British Blue heifers from Low Glasnick, led the trade at £1460, whilst bullocks peaked at £1365 for Angus from Sheddock.

A new centre record was set at Harrison and Hetheringt­on’s show and sale of hill rams, when a home-bred Herdwick shearling from Anthony Hartley, Turner Hall, sold for 10,000gns to J Rebanks, Racy, Ghyll.

Judges, Thomas Postlethwa­tie, Spout House and Stephen Baines, Ghyll Bank, found their champion in a shearling from Messrs Lightfoot, which sold for 2200gns.

The reserve honours were awarded to a two-shear ram from RRJ Weir, Chapel House, which later realised 3800gns.

Swaledales peaked at of £900 for the pre-sale champion from Messrs Capstick, Fellside.

On Tuesday, the firm’s sale of mountain ewes resulting in an average of £83.26 (+£8.52 on the year) with gimmers cashing in at £106.46 (+£10.30).

Anthony Hartley, Turner Hall, was again in the money, setting another centre record when selling his champion pen of five Herdwick ewes for £400 per head, to J Prentice, Carmarthen­shire.
