THE in-depth crop establishment specialist event, Tillage-Live, returned to East Lothian for the second time last week, by kind permission of Eweford Farm, where organisers welcomed one of its largest number of visitors to date.

The event was the perfect opportunity for arable growers to witness a wide range of machines in working demonstrations from leading manufacturers, including Amazone, Horsh UK, Vaderstad and Kuhn to name a few – all with establishment technology on show comprising ploughs, cultivators, sprayers, conventional, strip tillage and direct drills.

The event also included a static exhibition area which provided guests an opportunity to discuss new ideas with industry-leading experts – with this year’s knowledge trial focussing on soils and cover crops, as well as min-till approaches which are playing a more dominant role in current arable operations across the country.

One of the newest pieces of equipment that visitors got to experience first hand at the event was CHCNAV’s NX510 SE automated steering system, which is being trialled for the first time in the country by Steven Grieve, of GPS and Guidance Solutions, in North Berwick.

He told The Scottish Farmer: “Last year I looked at becoming more accurate within my own business, specifically into ground care and gardening, and I did a lot of research which led me to realising that I would have to be investing at least £18,000 in a brand new GPS system to do just that,” he explained.

“I started looking more into the budget options available on the market, where I came across the NX510 SE – which easily retrofits many types of new and old farm tractors and other vehicles with a compact, up-to-date and allin-one solution at a price every farm can afford.”

“The entire system costs £5000 plus VAT – a serious reduction to the other options on the market – and I’ve found that it improves accuracy, which ultimately provides significant productivity gains, works in all visibility conditions and reduces operator fatigue,” he added.

The NX510 SE – which is manufactured in China – uses the latest generation integrated guidance controller, which is easier to install to avoid wasting precious time in the field.

Its enhanced built-in connectivity modules include a 4G modem and an additional UHF radio modem to allow you to work with your favorite RTK correction sources from local RTK networks or GNSS RTK base

stations.

In addition, it can be easily transferred from one tractor to another, offering unmatched flexibility. The guidance controller featuring full GNSS constellations offers increased accuracy for optimal navigation reliability.

The combined GNSS+INS terrain compensation technology ensures handsfree driving accuracy to within a centimetre (or subinch) and provides superior performance in ditching, planting and harvesting applications.

2.5cm pass-to-pass accuracy

The NX510 SE is an advanced guidance controller powered by multiple correction sources and five satellite constellations: GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, Beidou and QZSS.

Its built-in 4G and UHF modem seamlessly connects to all industry standard DGPS and RTK corrections to achieve centimeter accuracy steering.

In addition, terrain compensation technology maintains high accuracy, even in challenging environments and terrain.

Fast, easy-to-use and rugged display

AgNav multilingual software, operating on a 10.1-inch industrial display, supports multiple guidelines patterns, including AB line, A+ line, circle line, irregular curve and headland turn, to handle all common farming operations.

The intuitive AgNav software enhances the user experience in every way to complete field operations with high speed and accuracy.

Enhanced connectivity steering controller

The NX510 SE is an automated steering system that can be fully installed in less than 40 minutes on most farming vehicles, significantly eliminating costly downtime.

The auto-steering system features enhanced builtin connectivity, including multiple CAN ports, serial ports, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, a 4G modem and even its onboard UHF radio modem.

ISOBUS compatibility with all major brands of equipment provides an optimal response to demanding agricultural applications and improves field operations.
