Angus bulls hit 10,000gns – twice

Black Captain, which was privately sold to the Smith family, at Lesmahagow, last year for £7000.

Another two bulls made 7500gns, with the first being Tom Hopkinson’s March, 2021-born Lindertis Proud Iggy, from Kinalty, Kirriemuir. Orkney producers, T and J Leslie, Quoymore House, were the final bidders on this bull by the 10,000gns Rawburn Jingo Eric, out of Wolflaw Proud Iona.

George and Nicky Taylor’s Mosshall herd, from Blackburn, also sold to 7500gns for the March, 2021born Mosshall Red Dancer – the reserve intermedia­te champion at the pre-sale show. Sired by Mosshall Red Legacy and out of Mosshall Dana, he heads north with Kenny Eunson, Braebuster, Deerness, Orkney.

A bid of 7000gns was made for three bulls, with the first to hit that being the March, 2021-born Hallington Principal, from Alan Lawson’s Newcastle on Tyne-based herd. Purchased by JGS and D Duncan, Jacobshall, Banff, he is a son of Tonley Kasper out of Hallington Princess.

Alistair Clark and sons, Brian and Alister, Cumnock, claimedthe­finaltwo70­00gns for their two similarly-aged Duncanziem­ere bulls, Proud Ice and Edinburgh.

Both are by Auchincrie­ve Exodus – which has bred sons to 30,000gns – with Proud Ice being bred from Duncanziem­ere Proud Ilena. He sold to J and A Mitchell, Killelan Farm, Dunoon, Argyll.

Duncanziem­ere Edinburgh, out of the Rawburn Jester Eric-sired Duncanziem­ere Ellen Erica, was snapped up by DG Mackey, Lisburn, Co Antrim.

Next, at 6500gns, was Andrew and Emma Hodge’s Rulesmains Pegasus from their Duns-based herd, purchased by AW Neish, Rodmead, Warminster. Reserve male champion at the Scottish National Show and the Great Yorkshire, he is by Carruthers Gilbert and out of Rulesmains Princess.

Andrew Reid and David Stubbs, of AJR Farms, Ellon, sold to 6200gns for the February, 2021-born bull, Logie President. Sired by Blelack Prince Cornelius and out of Logie Pride, he sold up to Orkney with Terry Coghill.

Matt and Heather Currie’s Dumfries-based Kingholm herd also hit 6200gns with Kingholm Blue Ribbon. A son of Ribble Egma, which bred sons to 7000gns in February, out of Kingholm Bluebell, he was bought by Elsick Estate, Mains of Newhall, Stonehaven.
