Bull averages up £250 at Carlisle sale
TOMSCHOICE SNOOPDOG from the Cooper family was one of two bulls to make 20,000gns
NO fewer than 16 bulls sold at five-figure prices at the British Limousin Cattle Society’s autumn show and sale at Carlisle, where a top price of 20,000gns was paid on two occasions.
It might have been a more realistic lead bid, but it did not detract from the quality of bulls forward which saw overall averages rise almost £250 per head on the year albeit for 15 fewer sold.
First to hit the 20,000gns lead was theMarch 2021-born bull, Tomschoice Snoopdog, from the Cooper family – James, Sarah, Laura and Ben – of Hill Top Farm, Dacre, North Yorkshire. He boasts some interesting genetics, being sired by the home-bred bull, Tomschoice Oriflamme, a Mereside Leo son bred from Tomschoice Lachic that goes back to Kaprico Eravelle. Snoopdog’s dam, Tomshoice Jessy J is also by Eravelle. Male champion at Northern Limousin Extravaganza and inter-breed champion at
Otley Show earlier this year, Snoopdog sold boasting double F94L myostatin, to Welsh breeder, GP Vaughan buying for the Dolcorsllwyn herd from Powys.
James McKay and family’s Ampertaine herd from Co Derry, Northern Ireland, is never far away from the top prices and this year was no exception, selling the second 20,000gns bull along with several other high priced lots.
His best, Ampertaine Shanghi, an 18-month-old entry that stood second in his class, is by the AI sire, Whinfellpark Lomu, a bull that has bred sons to 17,000gns and daughters to 10,000gns for the Wilodge and Woodmarsh herds respectively. The dam, Ampertaine Origin, an Ampertaine Magnum is from the same family as the 22,000gns Ampertaine Sherry sold at the 50th Anniversary sale in August. Shanghi also sold with

His bull, brought out by stockman Tim Russell, is by the 40,000gns Ampertaine Opportunity owned in partnership with the Goldies and Newhouse herds and out of Spittalton Nayla, a Trueman Jagger daughter. Perthshire producers, R Simpson and Son, Mains of Creuchies, Blairgowrie, went to 19,000gns for this 18-month-old bull.

An embryo calf, Stormzy is a result of a flush from Wedderburn Hannah, a daughter of Mountscott Donal, a Ronick Hawk son and the top priced bull at Roscrea in 2009. The sire is the 16,000gns Goldies Novelty. No stranger to the limelight, Stormy which boasts double F94L myostatin genes, was male champion and overall junior inter-breed at Turriff and male champion at the Scottish National Limousin Grand Prix.
