BORDERWAY Agri Expo organisers at Harrison and Hetherington’s Carlisle-based market are gearing up for another jam-packed event with this year’s Expo attracting another bumper line up of quality beef and sheep, seminars and trade stands.
The one-day trade show on Friday, October 28, is again set to attract exhibitors and spectators from all four corners of the UK to compete and view some 22 national prime sheep classes, the 25 national suckled calf and cattle classes, pedigree classes, young handlers and the David Allen Stockperson of the Year Competition.
Agri Expo will also host five breed society shows –
Border British Blue Club Calf Show; Simmental Regional Calf Show; Beef Shorthorn NationalCalfShow; Aberdeen Angus Winter National Show; and the Hereford National Calf Show.
In the region of 700 head of sheep and cattle will pass under the watchful eye of a talented line-up of judges; Allan Wight, Midlock, Crawford, will judge the sheep classes, Michael Alford from Foxhillfarm, Collumpton, Devon, will put the commercial cattle through their paces, and Duncan Semple, Dippen, Campbeltown, is to place the baby beef animal.
Mule ewe lambs will be selected by Cumbrian farmer, Trevor Foster and the pedigree cattle judges include Fraser Cormack, Pamela Nicol, Chall Pearsons, William McMordie and Varrie Loggie.
Following year’s inauguration, David Thomlinson Lifetime Achievement Award will, for the second time, be awarded to someone recognised for their passion for the industry and its future. Last year’s winner John Gent was the first to receive the award and described it as overwhelming and an honour.
The H&H Land and Estates seminars are also returning to explore and debate a variety of current industry challenges and changes. There will be two sessions taking place on the day:
