ALLANSHAWS Ben Nevis, a two-shear North Country Cheviot ram from Roderick and Lewis Runciman, Allanshaw, Galashiels attracted a £12,000 centre record price at the breed sale at Dingwall.

The tup, a son of Allanshaws Amen, out of a home-bred ewe by Inkstack VIP used on loan, sold in a two-way split to Scott and Farquhar Renwick, Inverbroom and Graham McRae, Kintail.

Second top price was £6000 paid for the Renwick’s Inverbroom Bulldozer, a twoshear by Inverbroom Thor, purchased by Willie and Jim Thomson, Hownam Grange, Kelso.

Four shears from Hughie and Jan Mackenzie, Langdale, Strathnave­r, sold to £4000, with shearlings peaking at £2600 for the Campbells from Bardnaclav­an, Thurso. A three-shear from Inkstack, Barrack, made £2500.

Overall the sale achieved a 95% clearance for 646 rams forward which sold to average £659.

Also sold were 285 continenta­l rams which peaked at £1200 for a Texel shearling from D Paterson, Veltigar, Tankerness.

The firm also sold 4143 breeding and feeding sheep where a Texel ram from Inchrory, Dornoch, secured the top price of £380.

Gimmers (727) averaged £115.92 having sold to £230 for a Cheviot from Viewbay, Munlochy, whilst a pen of Texel cross ewes from Inchrory, Dornoch, secured £165, with this section cashing in at £82.79 (up £10.84 on the year).

Cheviot Mules from Inchrory, Dornoch, topped the feeding ewes at £112, with the section balancing out at £53.14 (up £3.54).
