LEADING prices
A 270kg Limousin cross heifer from Una MacDonald, Lower Cairnglass, Ardersier, secured the overall championship and lead price of £4200 or 1555.6p per kg at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ show and sale of spring-born weaned calves at Thainstone.
Judge, Steven Smith, Sunnyhill Farms, Turriff, backed his decision and bought his choice of champion, and found his reserve in a 304kg Limousin cross heifer from Gary Bell, Haas-Side, Lockerbie, that realised £2200 to Finn Christie, Newton of Balquhain, Pitcaple.
Spring-born bullocks sold to 434.8p for a 322kg Limousin cross from Mid Fleenas, Nairn, and to £1420 for a 344kg Limousin cross from Haas-side, Lockerbie.
The sale of store cattle saw 374 bullocks and 375 heifers cash in at 238.5p per kg and 237.3p respectively.
Bullocks sold to 314.4p for a 396kg Charolais cross from Auchorachan, Glenlivet, and to £1670 for a pair of 734kg Limousin crosses from Backhills, Corse.
A 462kg Limousin cross from Govals, Kincaldrum, led the heifer trade at 519.5p and £2400.
Limousin crosses topped the bull trade at 276.4p for a 322kg entry from Fodderletter, Tomintoul, and to £990 for a 476kg animal from Kinknockie, Mintlaw.
