LEADING awards
SCOTLAND’S 22 young dairy breeders and enthusiasts and their 32 calves, came home in style from the All Breeds All Britain Calf Show at the East of England Showground, Peterborough, having won a kist load of awards.
Heading up the listings was Neil Sloan (26) who bagged the supreme Holstein showmanship after taking reserve here last year. Neil who is a partner in George Templeton and family’s Knowe Ayrshire-based dairy business at Cumnock, also recently travelled to Montichiari, Italy, to represent Holstein Young Breeders following his big win.
Travelling alongside him to the Italian open junior competition – which involves clipping, showmanship and stockjudging – was the reserve Holstein winner from the showmanship classes, Will Horsley, of the Border and Lakeland Club.
Scotland’s young Holstein team also won the reserve overall team honours behind Border and Lakeland.
Dumfries-shire’s Hattie Hassell won the overall in the Brown Swiss competition with Max Bryson and Kyle Scott, landing the champion and reserve honours amongst the Ayrshires.
David Outram the British topped Friesian showmanship and Abi Marshall, won the equivalent amongst the Jerseys.
Max was back on the winners’ podium after exhibiting the champion Ayrshire calf, Knowe B-King Barby, an August, 2021born heifer owned by the Templetons, Knowe, Cumnock.
There was a double win for Scotland in the British Friesian calf show too when entries from Adam Lawson and family’s Fife-based herd scooped the champion and reserve honours. Supreme was Lismulligan Honeyschaap, with the blue and white sash presented to Lismulligan Grey.
