Seize the skills development chance at AgriScot

-

SKILLS development within the farming workforce will be to the fore at the imminent AgriScot event at Ingliston on Wednesday November 16.

Over the course of the day there will be two big opportunities to get involved with upskilling and solving the sector’s workforce issues.

For females working in agriculture, the rural sector, in an allied trade or perhaps with aspirations to set up their own rural business, there will be information about ‘Be Your Best Self’, a free online programme, funded by the Scottish Government, which helps rural women from across Scotland to grow their confidence, identify their skills and build their networks.

Spaces are available for future cohorts of this great programme and interested AgriScot visitors can have an informal chat with its facilitators to find out how the programme could benefit them. Simply head along to the Highland Hall Foyer Workshop Room at the event anytime between 10.30am and 12.30pm to have a private one-to-one chat – ten minutes that could change your life!

You can find out more about the Be Your Best Self programme at www. beyourbestself.site

There will also be a seminar on ‘Skills Development – Future Proofing Farming’s Workforce’, where Scotland’s experts on industry collaboration, SAOS, want to explore with the panel and the audience how the sector can attract and recruit new employees into agriculture, retain the existing workforce, develop skills to embrace new opportunities and create next generation leaders within the industry.

Chaired by SAOS vicechairman Rory Christie, the seminar will look at how to develop sufficient and adaptable workforce resource to deal with the significant and unpredictable changes facing farming in 2023 and beyond.

That future looks likely to be dominated by net zero, agritech, data-driven new systems and diversification, but what core or new skills will the industry need to be learning or teaching in order to ensure a future proof workforce? The session will examine existing and desired solutions including the Growing Tomorrow’s Leaders programme and the aforementioned Be Your Best Self programme for women in agriculture.

AgriScot’s ‘Future Proofing Farming’s Workforce’ seminar will take place in Room 2 in the Upper Foyer at 2.30pm.
