THE pre-sale champion, a 236kg Limousin cross heifer, secured the top price of £2000 and 847.50p per kg at United Auctions’ sale of 984 suckled calves on Monday, for the Smiths, Barmurrie.

Heifers (375) cashed in at 259.08p, with bullocks (609) averaging 272.61p having sold to 426.50p and £1450 for the reserve honours, a 340kg Limousin cross from Brian Harper, Greenwells,.

Champion pen of eight Limousin cross bullock calves crossed the weigh bridge at 360kg before making £1040 for Cloquhat Farms.

Also forward were 5853 store and feeding sheep, which sold to £104.50 for Texels from Cluny Estates, with this breed averaging £82.11 (-£4.49 on the week).

Beltex crosses cashed in at £85.61 (- £7.86), with Mules and Suffolk crosses at £80.33 and £78.04 respective­ly.

Cheviots at £68.02 (-£5.18) and Blackface sheep balanced out at £50.14 (-£8.06).
