BULLOCKS (424) and heifers (349) averaged 243.94p per kg and 226.21p respective­ly at United Auctions’ weekly sale.

Limousin crosses from West Thomaston, led the per head sections at £1500 for a 540kg bullock, and to 570kg for a Limousin cross heifer.

More of the same breed led the pence per kg sections, firstly at 283.40p was a 441kg bullock from High Bent, and to 297.00p for a 404kg heifer from Upper Obney.

Young bulls sold to 221.00p for a Limousin cross from Gateside, and to £1150 for a Beef Shorthorn cross from Saddlebank.

Averages improved across the board among the store lambs with Texel crosses and Beltex crosses cashing in at £83.98 (+£1.87 on the week) and £89.03 (+£3.42) respective­ly. Suffolk crosses at £82.76 (+£4.72), Cheviots at £73.67 (+£5.65) and Blackfaced balancing out at £51.07 (+£0.93). Mules dropped slightly on the week averaging £79.94 (-£0.39).

Trade topped at £113.50 for Texels from South Ailiey.

There was a sale of rams, which achieved a joint top price of £800 on two occasions firstly for a Texel shearling from JJ and DM Ferguson, Kerry Cottage, secondly for a Texel ram lamb from R Wilson, North Dorlaither­s.
