THE Bonfire show and sale of store cattle at Mitchell Auction Market, witnessed a top price of £1575 for a Limousin heifer from AJ Wood, Woodhall Brow, Dean.

Steers sold to £1435 for a Limousin from T Scott, Hilltop, Deanscales.

Among the pre-sale show the championsh­ip rosette was awarded to a Charolais heifer from I Powley, Green Marsh, Carlisle, which later realised £1320, with the reserve coming in the form of a Limousin steer from TW West, Pickett Howe, Egremont, which sold for £1385.

Blonde steers from E Noble, Mill Farm, Beckermet, led the suckled calves trade at £1175 on two occasions, whilst heifers peaked at £1145 for a British Blue from AJ and JM Fell, Mosedale End, Mungriseda­le.

A Limousin in-calf heifer made £2800 for W and PA Walton, Low Kinmont.
