Belinda leads the way at North of Fife Foal Show

-

LAST Saturday was a fireworks night to remember for the Black family, from Collessie, in Fife, when they came home after a successful day at North of Fife Foal Show.

Held at Highfield Equestrian, at Howe, it was Ronnie, Mike and Pete Black’s junior filly foal, Collessie Belinda, that caught the eye of judge, Walt Bedford, to take the overall title.

This filly is sired by Collessie Monarch and out of Glenverbie Duchess. It was her first outing since the World Clydesdale Show, where she stood fourth in a strong line up.

The reserve overall honours went to Freedom Believe in Love, from John Anderson, Ron Brewster and Helen Carr. Known at home as ‘Joy’, she has had a successful season this year, picking up the reserve female championship at the National Stallion Show and first place at both the Royal Highland and latterly at the World Clydesdale Show.

This three-year-old mare was the senior champion and was bred in Canada, being sired by Freedom Majestic Believer and out Freedom Majestic Irish Charm.

Standing as reserve senior, was another filly from the Blacks. Collessie Alana, and Arradoul Balvenie-sired, filly is no stranger to the show ring picking up numerous titles throughout the summer, including a recent win at Aberdeen Clydesdale Show.

It was the senior colt foal winner, Shielhill Sir Walter, from Matthew King and shown by Charlotte Young, that took the reserve spot in the foal section. He is by Doura Aird Ambition and was bred by Robert Sibbald, from Thorn, who had shown him at the World Clydesdale Show just a few weeks ago where he collected a red ticket.

The young handler’s sections were highly competitive and winning the senior section was 16-yearold Sophie Mitchell, who comes from near Elgin, in Moray, and who is part of the Arradoul Clydesdale team. Following on in the ‘Pee-wee’ handlers section, for those handlers aged 11 and under, was Harry Martin, who’s family have an agricultural contracting and haulage company near Dundee

The ridden class was well supported with six entries forward. Judge, Amanda Stewart, from Mollinhillhead, selected Mardougs Highland Park, from Yvonne Pringle, as her winner closely followed by Natalie Leslie’s Collessie First Choice in reserve.

The day ended with a display of six single carts entering the ring and being put through their paces. Topping this was Chris Warden, from Barndirran Stud, who drove John and Margo McIntyre’s mare, Freezlund Esmi into top spot.
