Thanks for making the magic of AgriScot happen
SIR, – Through The SF, I would like to extend a huge thank you to all those who joined us at AgriScot last week and for their role in making it such a memorable event.
Behind the scenes, we have been in planning mode for many months, so to see it all come together after three years away and for the day to be full of positive discussions and meaningful business, made my job as chairman, extremely worthwhile.
We are all tired of the phrase ‘unprecedented times’, but no one can argue that the last few years have been challenging and the past months have presented further obstacles for farming businesses – and they’re not over yet. Despite the adversities, AgriScot was a reminder of the sheer resilience of our industry and the determined way in which farming is preparing for its future.
I’ve watched AgriScot grow over the past two decades, from a dairy focused event to a show which actively caters for all sectors, both in its exhibitor offering, but also its varied seminar programme.
It was truly eye-opening to wander the halls and witness some of the latest innovations in agri-tech, made even more special by all being under one roof. It was a reminder to us all, as farmers, that the sector is actively investing in research and technological solutions to help take our businesses to the next level. If that isn’t a confidence boost for farming, then I don’t know what is?
I was honoured to host the NFUS head-to-head between Martin Kennedy and Mairi Gougeon, and it was an amazing moment to look out from my seat to a room bursting at the seams, with only standing room left.
Unsurprisingly, there were many frustrations raised by members, particularly around the slow pace of change of agricultural policy and I thank them for taking the time to engage and to ensure farming’s voice is heard during such a critical point .
There was much to be celebrated on the day and it was wonderful to see the finalists of the AgriScot awards gathered in the main ring, from all corners of Scotland – fantastic ambassadors for our sector
Most of all, AgriScot was a welcome break from the daily grind, to catch-up with colleagues and friends ahead of a particularly challenging winter and a reminder to check in with those who may need support in the times ahead.
I’m already looking forward to next year and want to finish by thanking the team at Rural Projects for making the magic happen and keeping the wheels turning on what is an incredibly important business event for UK agriculture.
