-

RECENTLY the Perth Foal Show, at Netherton Equestrian Centre, boasted 34 in-hand entries forward, with Littleward Meghan the top pick for judge, Tom Fountain, from Derbyshire.

This now five-year-old mare from Charlotte Young, of Ayr, is by renowned Cawdor Cup stallion, Arradoul Belvenie and out of Littleward Athena. Meghan has had many previous successes, including standing reserve Cawdor Cup winner in 2019.

Taking the top foal spot and reserve overall honours on her debut was Broom Jubilee, from Blyth Brewster. This junior filly is home-bred out of Broom Gemma and once again sired by Arradoul Belvenie. Blyth is from Stirling and follows in her father’s footsteps of breeding and showing Clydesdales.

Reserve senior was William Mitchell’s yearling filly, Ainville Miss Money Penny. She is by Redcastle Brelee Majestic, another previous Cawdor Cup winner and out Ainville Eilean Donan.

After winning the senior filly foal class it was Herkules Fashionista who took the reserve champion foal award for Christer Paulsson, from Sweden. Produced by Ronnie Black and family at Collessie, this April-born filly is by Collessie Highlander and out of Old Greenlaw Jura.

Winning the senior young handlers section was Mirren Young (12) from Finmont Clydesdales; the junior section, for competitors ages 7-11, was won for a second week in succession by Harry Martin; and the ‘Pee Wee’ section (aged 3-6) saw Amalie Dickinson and Ellie Brewster as joint first.

The increasingly popular single cart class was topped once again this week by Freezlund Miss Esmie, from J and M McIntyre, driven by Adam Balfour, from Forfar.

The ridden section was well supported in three classes for judges, Ali Hinselwood and Morag Snow. Winning the novice ridden was Fairhavens Anastasia, from Libby Findlay.

Ashley Douglas took home first place in the novice rider with Freezlund Mr Elliott, while the open section saw the winner from the Novice Ridden at the World Clydesdale Show, Bandirran Charlotte, from Val Smith take top spot, ridden by Olivia Steatfield James.
