From Iron Lady to Easy Rider...

-

SHE rose to fame playing Margaret Thatcher in the BBC drama The Long Walk To Finchley.

But now Andrea Riseborough has ditched the twin set and pearls and donned a cowboy hat and bandana to honour a very different kind of icon – Dennis Hopper in the cult 1969 film Easy Rider.

The 30-year-old British starlet posed as Hopper for a photoshoot celebrating a range of American heroes of film and literature.

The photographs, which will feature in the July edition of Tatler magazine, are accompanied by a memorable quote from each of the subjects.

The picture of Hopper’s character Billy in Easy Rider appears alongside one of the actor’s own references to his battle against drink and drugs.

In another of the pictures by Rankin, the British fashion photographer, Riseborough wears a £3,350 Ralph Lauren woollen suit in tribute to Hollywood film producer Robert Evans, who made The Italian Job and Rosemary’s Baby.

Riseborough is no stranger to dealing with American superstars, having starred as Wallis Simpson in the Madonna-directed film W.E. about the Abdication crisis of 1936. The actress insists she was unfazed by working with the pop diva.

‘She was wonderful. We had a real complicity on a daily basis and we strived together for what was the actual best,’ she said.

Riseborough, who was born in Whitley Bay on Tyneside, lives in LA with her boyfriend of two years, American artist Joe Appel. They plan to buy a home in Idaho, where Appel grew up.

She is currently filming the movie Oblivion alongside Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman. She adds: ‘It feels awesome in the best sense. It’s inspiring to watch Morgan work.’

Tatler’s July issue goes on sale on Thursday.
